Since you were robbed of a proper Q&A last time, I've added a couple more in this one. Fortunately, there are always people that have something to say. Before all that, a little announcement.



      We have changed the server reset times.

      So the server resets every day at 04:00 (4 AM) and 16:00 (4 PM) local server time.


      We're also trying a new thing. In order to keep up the flow of communication with our community, we have implemented a new thread which is called "Developers Daily Diary & EA Roadmap". In it we will write updated situations on current progress, so check it out!

      • This is a problem in single player. It seems to not save the time of local client so it resets every time you login. We are working on the fix.

      • The cooking became more elaborate and we are still working on improving it further. BBQ is meant to be here for raw meat not skewers. Also be careful on the BBQ. You need to find and tune perfect heat so your meat does not burn. If durability starts dropping rapidly it means it is burning.

        Jokes aside we tend to avoid wipes as much as we can but sometimes they are necessary. You should see Leva's face when he figures there will need to be a wipe and he will loose all his progress. I'll tell you what server he is on for 5$ on my paypal

      • As for the wipe same as above. We avoid them as much as possible. But if you feel burnt out it is understandable. Hey, if taking a break means you can enjoy the game even more once we roll more out go for it. As for the update times I answered this before. Things are not that simple. You might not be affected by certain issues, but some players are, and everyone deserves to play right? Also, if we have something we consider ready for release, why not release it and see if or what issues it causes with the rest on live build. It is better practice than releasing a bunch of stuff at once and then everything is a mess.

      • Wipes usually dont touch Singleplayer save files unless something goes terribly wrong but that is another subject.

      • As always, verify your steam files first. If that does not work, try going to: C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\SCUM and delete the saved data folder. That usually fixes the situation but unfortunately you will lose your SP progress. Multiplayer is safe as that is stored on the server.

      Greetings everyone and Happy Friday. Our Hotfix gun is not empty yet so here we go firing another one:

      • Fixed a bug where bases would randomly disappear.

      • Potential fix for a bug where a player wouldn't be able to connect to the servers.

      • Tweaked the HP and damage model on some base building elements.

      • Fixed floating foliage on castle.

      • Fixed a bug on interaction with bushes.

      • Potential fix for server crashes.

      • Removed the ability to build blueprints inside enemy Flag zones.

      WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


      In order to implement these fixes effectively a wipe is needed. Also during these issues a lot of players were affected with losses of items so we are leveling the field.

      Dear Survivors!



      DayZ is now out on all the major platforms – PC, Xbox, and PS4.

      You've probably seen team changes on social networks and are wondering: what's next? Of course, that's only natural, and today we would like to talk about the current issues, the expectations set by both the DayZ Mod and 0.62, and the future of the game.



      Consoles

      The console updates will always happen after the PC updates

      – within 3 to 4 weeks of each other. The main reason for this lies with the specifics related to the console submission and review process. It takes 3-7 days for a submitted game to go through review. If it is decided that the build is good to publish, it takes 3 more days to roll the update out to the public. However, if there are any issues flagged as a must-fix by Sony or Microsoft (even ones that could be fixed in an hour), the whole process has to start again.



      Because this review process can take so long, we use the readily available PC platform to try new versions early – to check if there are any significant issues we missed (as you know, it happens). This PC testing lets us deliver the console update in a more reliable state and minimizes the chance of re-sending builds for review.



      A quick 1.04 update:

      we will carry out a complete server and character wipe, and will introduce private servers.

      Also, this update will address some of the current most troublesome issues in the game – duping, server hopping, and frame rates.



      Past, Present, and Future Parity with 0.62 and the DayZ Mod – full parity isn't possible because of the engine specifics. While features from 5 years ago are exciting, we want to remind you: most of the features didn't really work properly back then, and this is why it wasn't a final game.



      You might question the necessity of a new engine, but for those who took a long break from the game, it's plain to see just how much of a difference it has made.

      DayZ runs a lot smoother on the new engine.

      Although it might be hard to notice the change when you play daily, taking a step back should help to highlight many of the improvements that have been made during development. And these improvements are strengthening the game every day. We see it through the steadily increasing player count (even on PC) since March 2019 (

      public data is here[steamcharts.com]

      ). We see it in Twitch statistics – with more channels streaming the game and more people watching (

      link to Twitch stats[sullygnome.com]

      ). It might be a far cry away from the numbers of 2013, but for an almost 6-year-old game, it's pretty good! Of course, we will continue to work on DayZ to make everyone's experience better.



      Let's take a more detailed look at the game and its future:


      • Advanced health system – We improved it in 1.04 and will continue the balancing. However, at this time we will not commit to implementing complex medical/injury gameplay – while this is desired by many hardcore players, we are still struggling to fully explain the complexity of the existing system to the majority of players. Moving forward, we are working on a nice balance between authenticity and accessibility.
      • New content (guns, cars, etc.) – As you know, we have already added some of these. More will follow, but keep in mind that it will depend on how quickly we can achieve this year's goals.
      • Modding support – We will improve the user experience for both modders and players. For example, we will soon bring animation tool support.
      • Stable base building – A large part of this is the matter of balancing, and it's one of our key objectives for the year.

      Our focus for DayZ for the rest of 2019 will be:

      bug fixing, stabilizing, balancing, and modding support.

      We also plan to release an official DLC this year (keep your eyes open, and follow us on social media for updates). Additionally, we are currently experimenting with Survivor GameZ (a mod and popular tournament from the past), and will possibly bring this to DayZ as an additional game mode.



      About peopleIt's normal – especially in this industry – to move on after working on a particular project for several years. And after major releases are done is the most likely time to do so. With DayZ, it's no different, and after releasing 1.0 on PC and console, some people are moving onto other projects internally, or leaving the company. It should go without saying that no matter what, these people will always be in the hearts of the DayZ team.



      While these are by no means the only team changes, we wanted to at least address the public faces of the game who are leaving:


      • Peter, Lead Designer, who led the design direction of DayZ through many tough years.
      • Eugen, Project Lead, will always be loved for his honesty and open ears to both players and developers.
      • Martin, Brand Manager, is in our hearts for his effort to finally bring DayZ successfully to players on Xbox and PlayStation.
      • Baty, Community Manager, loved for all the personal care for our community and interactions with our player base.

      Everyone who worked on DayZ not only has a great line in their portfolio, but the tremendous support of both us and the community behind them, and we wish them all the success in the world. Press F to pay respects.

      Yes, we all know what we did yesterday, and we're very sorry, so here we are trying to fix the issues. :)



      Regarding yesterday's chaos, the patch that we deployed had issues with the base build system and in return it caused corrupted databases, so we had to revert to the older game version. This hotfix contains everything from the last one, plus some extras we added, and the fix for the issue that caused the problem. If you notice that items/base build elements/vehicles are gone, we are also sorry for that, but we aren't able to restore your lost assets. Unfortunately, such is life in early access.

      • Fixed the bug where you could see chests through cabin doors.

      • Fixed the bug where the flag area indicator would rotate with the flag.

      • Disabled building base elements in unfriendly flag area.

      • Allowed building flags inside of cabins and on top of other base elements.

      • Changed ordering of clothes in GUI. Backpack is now first on the list, as the community asked for this.

      • Added progress widget when destroying base elements with drone.

      • Enabled flag claiming ownerless base elements.

      • DISCLAMER: We added a change to flags and how they work. So from today when you enter someones base and destroy the flag, the elements of that base still belong to the person who built them. Now you need to craft a flag after you destroyed the old one to make the base yours.

      • Added possibility to have high priority loading for certain items in virtualization. This means that some bigger items (shelter, tents, BB elements) will load sooner than smaller items (chests etc..) for a smoother gameplay transition/feeling.

      • Small server optimization.

      Here we are again, with another round of bug fixes, some optimizations and some more extras. So let's get into it!

      • Fixed most of the exploits for duplicating items in singleplayer and multiplayer. Which also caused crashes to happen.

      • Fixed female skeletal body parts and bra.

      • Fix for lead plate usage for crafting advanced fortifications.

      • Fixed area damage (grenades, car explosions) not working on base elements.

      • Fixed the inventory size of the weakest variant of the Recurve Bow "Scorpion #40".

      • Fixed the bug where deer meat was not eatable.

      • Chest and car container GUI should not clip through holster/quick access (there's a horizontal scrollbar, right click and drag to scroll)

      • Fixed the bug where right click on an item in menu would not open the container.

      • Corrected animations for anticipate draw montage.

      • Adjusted bow 3 and 5 pin sights to 200 grams weight.

      • Fixed the bug where items in quick access where not saved after relogs.

      • Fixed the issue with round glasses falling through floor on "drop" function.

      • Fixed crashes relating to weapon attachments.

      • Improvised toolbox now requires nails and bolts for crafting (before only one of those was needed)

      • We did some small optimisations from the client side.

      • Animals won't try to attack the player if he's in/on a vehicle.

      • Players won't take melee damage if inside the vehicle.

      • Removed Christmas items from the spawning pool. - Grinch NOOOOOoooo

      • Workshops that contain drill press machinery are no longer lockable (doors cannot be claimed anymore)

      • Barbed Wire can now be crafted (nails, metal scrap and wire). Barbed Wire Barricades for base building now require barbed wire as an ingredient.

      • Increased base render distance do 1000 meters.

      • Disabled building platforms on other players walls

      • All bullet crafting now requires advanced survival skill level, lead plate usage increased to 5 from 1. You will be able to craft 20 bullets per lead plate (down from 100)

      • Large toolbox rarity decreased from common to uncommon, Small toolbox rarity decreased from abundant to common.

      • Big animal fat weight decreased to 1 kg so it can fit in most clothes.

      • Now you can repair base build elements with just a toolbox, and it repairs all elements in a 1m radius.

      • Increased base element full decay time to 4 weeks.

      • 10 new songs on the radio!

      • Adjusted forks, now you can open cans with them, also you can chop the wooden fork into tinder.

      • Can't gain experience/fame points inside safe zones now.

      • You can now gather the crew and enjoy some fighting matches in safe zones. We have in each safe zone a boxing ring, and here is how the rules work:

        You can only kill/get killed while in the ring.

        People in the ring can't do harm to players outside the ring.

        Everything is allowed in the ring.

        You DO NOT talk about the ring.

      • For all server admins now when you go through the logs you will be able to read all unicode characters as they are.

      • Weapon durability no longer influences it's attack damage.

      • Handles and blades of sharp weapons now have the same armour penetration values. (To balance out the melee fighting experience)

      • Reworked all melee weapons stats ( all have increased damage,
        blunt weapons now have a knockout chance per hit, added sharpness/penetration values to all sharp weapons,
        weapon hits should produce correct sound based on their material now )

        • New damage system explained:

          Total weapon damage is calculated by the following formula:
          Weapon damage x Melee skill x STR modifier. Some numbers to crunch:

          Sledgehammer, Melee Max Skill & Strength Max Value
          ( 0.4 x 0.6 x 1.2 = 0.288 or 28.8% health damage)

      • Increased puppet max health by 0.1 (now the values are 0.7, 0.6, 0.5 and 0.4 depending on the puppet type)

      • One of the bigger things to come in these notes is the flag system that will be the new way of handling base element owners.

      • You will be able to craft a flag and every base build element in a radius of 50m from the flag will belong to the flag owner.

      • Every base element outside a flag influence will not belong to anyone and everyone can interact with it (open, close etc.)

      • Different colours are used as indicators when building in the influence range of the flag. Green is when you place a blueprint under friendly influence, and yellow is when you try to place a blueprint with enemy influence which means if you build there, that item will belong to the player that has the flag.

      • A flag can be destroyed with any chopping tool via interaction.

      • When a flag is destroyed, all base elements under its influence become ownerless.

      • We will have a transition period for flags so your existing bases don't get claimed by random people placing flags. The flag mechanic will currently apply only to new base elements - all existing pre-patch base elements will have the same owner as before and ignore the flag mechanics. In short, flag will not override owners of existing pre-patch base elements and flag will not clear owners of pre-patch base elements when destroyed. Next week we will push one more patch with all of the flag mechanics enabled so make sure you build flags in your existing bases.

      Here's what the Gamepires team did today:



      • Fixed the corrupted chests and endless loading times
      • Changed projectile relevancy distance and made projectiles fired from far away stop simulating on other clients (better client performance!)
      • Added the Improvised toolbox to the base building resources
      • Improvised Toolbox is now a bit harder to craft
      • You can now fuel the fire with oil!
      • We fixed a bunch of little issues on the female body meshes, as well as female clothes
      • Stone arrow tips used to show up as safety pins on the ground, but we fixed them
      • Added new animations for the character creation menu as well as the idle menu
      • Added owner and HP info for base elements when hovering as a drone
      • Fixed issue where team members wouldn't see all wall segments in a blueprint
      • Admin commands will now work even if they contain spaces!
      • Removed claim interaction on bases
      • Local chat history saves to database
      • All craftable ammunition and can suppressors now need the Drill Press (Machinery) in the vicinity for the recipe to function
      • Significantly decreased the amount of steaks, fat and bones that chopped animals drop (steak and animal fat weight has been increased to 1kg and 2kg respectively, and they have more charges to compensate, the total calorie intake should remain roughly the same)
      • Goat head can no longer be chopped
      • Fixed a bunch of collisions
      • 1H_Stone_Axe and 2H_Stone_Axe moved from tier 3 sharp weapons to tier 2 (they now have a lower multiplier for resource gain when chopping/cutting , etc.)
      • Fixed some typos in item descriptions

      Adjusted some achievements when checking time played on character


      Doubled the time it takes to grow hair and beards


      Item duplication exploits have been fixed


      Various LOD fixes (e.g. female gloves)


      Removed the option to gain fame points by infinitely refilling water containers


      Changed base element draw distance to 600 meters (seriously improved client performance)


      Reduced placement bounds for all base elements by 20 cm

      The fourth Platform Update of DayZ on PC is now live (both the client and server files). DayZ 1.04 brings you an expansion on the disease system and gives purpose to several medical items. On the combat side, we've added two new assault rifles from the trusty KA family and an arsenal of grenades as survivors discover their ability to throw items.       KA-74

      The KA-74 is a selective-fire assault rifle, fed from a detachable magazine. It was introduced in the 1970s, as the replacement of the KA-M with compatible attachments. It uses 5.45x39mm rounds.

      that is also used for default Arma 3 DLC. Some of the most typical use case scenarios for wanting to subscribe to this Workshop item are the following:



      You did not want/were able to purchase the DLC yet, and you accept

      restrictions

      to the use of its content, but...


      • you want to join multiplayer servers that make use of GM content (note that this does not include access to the Weferlingen terrain);
      • you want to be able to preview the GM DLC assets in the Virtual Arsenal;
      • you want to access a community-made scenario, add-on, or mod that makes use of GM assets.
      Why is Creator DLC data optional to install?

      Creator DLC is optional to install so that the default Arma 3 installation size (and update download sizes) remains manageable for all – also for those who do not own or have interest in particular Creator DLC, and/or for people with limited storage space or slower Internet speeds/data restrictions. This is expected to become even more important in the future, when more Creator DLC of large data sizes might be released (for reference, GM DLC data is already about 20 GB). One other reason is that a Creator DLC's theme or setting might be very different from regular Arma 3, and not everyone might want that to be visible in their game.
